Painstaking effort has been put into searching for evidence that the events of the Bible actually occurred. The results of their work are a great encouragement for our own faith, but beyond that, what is the real effect?

The evidence is found, yet millions donโ€™t accept it. They still live life in the same way and donโ€™t surrender to the God who made the crossing of the Red Sea possible.

Why? Because evidence has limits.

Even though time and time again the Bible has been proven to be historically accurate, that evidence has not been enough to prompt real life change. Pharaoh was presented with evidence too. God sent ten plagues to show Him that the God of Moses was the Almighty God and He should be feared and worshiped, but that evidence only worked to harden Pharaohโ€™s heart. The proof was right in front of him, but he refused to accept it.

The same happens today. Sometimes it seems that the more evidence there is for the existence of God and the truthfulness of His Word, the harder some hearts become. For many, evidence and reason will not be enough.

Donโ€™t let that discourage you. Just as in the exodus, Godโ€™s work goes on. Our job is simply to make the gospel and the evidence for it available to all and pray that it will find soft hearts.
